Apparently, all Intel CPUs that use DTS are whacked.

my x3350 (xeon version of the q9450) reads about the same. I'm using 1.256v i believe as read by cpu-z and it is set in the bios as 1.3v.
__________________idle with my tuniq is at 50-53*c depending on how hot the room is and full loads around 63-71*C again depending on room temps with Folding at home. if you look around it almost seems to be normal. what I find funny with this though is the heat pipes and the base for the tuniq are not even really luke warm. they feel abotu room temps. A lot different then my 2900pro running at 55*c with the hr-03 on it. there the heat pipes were really hot and the base was very warm. BTW do you have a temp sensor that almost always reads lower then the others? I do it's on the third core. EDIT: I tried that realtemp program. honestly it reads about the same.

The temp for cores 3 and 4 are completely stuck. Cores 1 and 2 are abnormally high idling and 54C. When I run Prime95, that 54C temp goes up a few notches and stays there while cores 3 and 4 do nothing.
__________________Core Temp and Everest (latest version) give me the same readouts. In BIOS, I receive the same temp as the one that Smart Guardian puts out which is around 34C - I guess that's just the area around the CPU socket. In conclusion, I'm stuck with my handicapped baby Q9450. I have no way of knowing the correct temperature of the cores. VCore does not have to be bumped up much for it to run at 3.6Ghz. The only problem is having to pump nearly 1.5V through the NB for it to stay Prime95 stable. I'll be messing with the GTL stuff now. Thanks for the input all!

I also have a Q9450, and have experienced the same concerns that you have. I have no answers, except that I did ask Intel Tech Support. There response is kind of a "don't worry". An except from their response "Keep in mind that you do not need to worry about the temperature of each core, you only need to pay attention to the temperature of the CPU itself.
__________________Also keep in mind that we do not recommend using third party cooling solutions since by doing so will void the processor warranty". My main concern is that CPU Temp does not vary with Load. Two cores are locked at 58C. The other Two vary 37-46C depending on Load. I do not yet have enough info to comment on performance.

I just picked up a Q9450 last week and I'm getting some high idle temps as well. BIOS CPU Temp was 30C in setup at stock. I OC'd to 3.6Ghz (450x8 w/ 1.3 vcore in BIOS) and I get the following: (note this is on a Swiftech H20-120 Compact water cooled system)
SpeedFan 4.34 beta 44: CPU: 34C Core 0: 44C Core 1: 40C Core 2: 51C Core 3: 51C RealTemp reports: Core 0: 39C Core 1: 35C Core 2: 46C Core 3: 46C Temps are way higher than my Q6600 G0 at the same freq so something is up. I reseated cooler twice and I got around the same temps. One thing I do notice is that my ASUS motherboard BIOS complains that the CPU is unknown but allows me to continue. Further research shows the latest BIOS supports the C0 stepping Q9450 and as you know, those were never released because of problems with some motherboards. These new ones are all C1 so I'm wondering if its a BIOS issue. |

The Q9450 I have is currently on a P5K-E. I got a similar BIOS message. I updated the BIOS to the latest "Beta", and the previous BIOS message went away. I agree that this beast is very differant from a Q6600(G0). It does not seem to matter what Temp reporting software I use. Perhaps the reporting software is not yet compatible with the Q9450. An E8400 does not react this way. BTW, my Q9450 is a tray CPU from Tankguys.

I forgot to mention that Real Temp 2.24 shows the cores as (48,48,25,32) as compared to Core Temp 0.96 (58,58,35,42).

This really concerns me..I am planning a x48/Q9450 build in just a few weeks.
Short of an actual thermal probe..has there been any luck with alternative programs for 'real' temp reporting? [ie- Everest, CoreTemp..etc.]

cl3p2o I easily think something is wrong with the monitoring software itself. I can put my finger on the base of my heat sink and it is only luke warm. if my cpu really was running at 65-70*c for all the cores I believe it would be running quite a bit warmer then that.
__________________another thing also is I actually use less power at idle with this quad core then I did using my e6600 yet somehow it runs warmer.
