I personally think the DTS in the CPU is messed up. There's no way I'd idle so high (54 on cores 1 and 2 and 44 on cores 3 and 4). My waterblock in securely in place, there's good contact between the CPU and block and I've lapped both before installation.
__________________Before anyone says anything, in Prime95, with small FFT's, the temp doesn't break 62C after 2 hours! That is a very small Delta value. So...if that doesn't scream,"broken thermal dies!" I'm a monkey's uncle. I've heard that people had similar experiences with E8400's. Please someone jump in and tell me I'm not crazy.

Great! I'm not crazy. Now only if I can somehow get the DTS to start reading correctly...can I just kick it or something? How about tying a rock to it?

Try Everest and HWMonitor and see what readings you get...it could be that CoreTemp needs to be updated...or something with the sensor on the Q9450...i think there was a similar issue with the E8400s. Nothing to worry i think

I believe it's normal (well, normal in the sense that it is uniform across all these chips). The DTS does not accurately detect temperature while idle, as it is only designed (by Intel) to detect the ceiling range. My X3320 also has high idle temps.

Perhaps the software has to be revised. I don't think you're alone in this.
