3GHz should be fine under stock cooling, given that you should be able to get there under stock or close to stock volts. As long as your temps are under 70C during load (use Prime95 to test) according to RealTemp you'll be fine. You can use CoreTemp to check your chips VID, I'd recommend manually setting vcore to the VID reported by coretemp and then setting FSB to 400 and seeing if that's stable after 6 hours of prime95. Report back with peak temps if so, it'd be nice to know for certain that this chip can do 3GHz under stock cooling.

Thank you for the quick reply sir. I will try what you said after I receive my motherboard which should be Friday and post back the results and readings.

Default Mine @ 3.2Ghz

My VID = 1.0875v according to coretemp. Is that good or bad? hehe and what is LDT spread spectrum and its purpose?

OK here are the settings under BIOS (version 1303): FSB =1707
Mem timing: 5.5.5.15 / 2T @ 1066
CPU vcore=1.3255v (around there I forogot)
CPU PLL=1.60
VTT=1.40
Mem=2.10
NB=1.44
SB=1.50
1.2V HT= Auto
Bridge = Auto
CPU Internal Thermal = Disabled
Execute Disable Bit = Disabled
Virtualization = Disabled

I'm using the zalman 9700 NT atm so idle around 44,45,40,43 & under load65,65,63,63 using realtemp.

Well I can't seem to get 3.4Ghz stable unless with a good liquid cooling kit or something better to cool the cpu and chipset. The NB runs too hot still around 75-85? i think LOL so still in the process of thinking what I can do to it. I really prefer not to spend more $ on this sytem. I'm bum b/c of the cpu low multi and damn mobo with hot chipset.

oh and 3dmark06 scored 14211 3Dmarks using single 9800gtx (stock)
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=6813682

Cheers! & get your frags on!

i've heard scary things about VTT on this chipset...and my last (sig) rig didn't have VTT as an option, so i'm still not totally clear on what it is/how much is safe. i have mine at 1.17V...are you sure you need that much? upping NB to 1.5ish might help get you further....

also, i experienced very clear instability when i disabled internal thermal control and virtualization on my q9300 (not sig) rig that cleared up instantly when i turned them both back on... if you've hit a wall i'd really recommend enabling them. doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but i know i had my OS lock up idling twice with them off, even though it's rock solid (14 hours Prime95 and no trouble during normal usage) at the same OC when they're on.

did you replace the stock TIM on your NB? i don't know about your board specifically but my p5n-e TIM was ****ing garbage. just take your NB cooler off, thoroughly remove the TIM that's there, and replace it with AS5. 75-80C on the NB is *way* too high. Neither my 650i nor my p35 reach over 40C *ever*. if you're still having trouble i can recommend the thermaltake extreme spirit II--don't have experience with any other chipset coolers.

I would turn on internal thermal control, execute diable bit, and virtualization.

as for voltages, if you're trying to push your OC further you'll definately need more vcore, and probably more vNB as well.

Are you saying you made a team at folding@home directly?? You know that Overclock.net has it's own team, right? Head over to the folding forum here... you can probably make a sub-team... but there's no way I'm going to switch away from folding for Overclock.net.

Try my settings as posted above. Also leave the NB, SB overheat protection @ 90 that's fine. Usually it's unstable due to NB is getting too hot you have to mount a small fan or something on it. I'm getting the thermalright spirit II... for it..

Also turn on enable loadline calibration. And don't use the 1600 FSB I think it's a weak spot around here for this mobo. Use anything higher than 1600 and see if that's better. Why not run it at 3.2ghz like me. It seems pretty stable for me so far. I need to run prime95 though. I ran it for about 1hr and it was okay. GL and if anybody with a stable settings @ 3.4ghz using the same mobo (striker II formula) please post your stable settings. Thanks

i'm @ 3.4 (or rather just shy) on a different board/chipset...you can find those settings back a bit in this thread. only need 1.2525 vcore on this chip, but I have a pretty low VID chip.
