I guess I've been pretty lucky with my chip, which normally I don't get very good overclockers. I have run Prime95 on two occasions now, 8 hours and 10 hours and both pass just fine. I've been letting them run in my sleep and stop the process when I go to work just because. This is the Q9300 running 3Ghz @ 1.032v (NB/SB set to Auto and 1:1 divider).

The first time I ran it, it was to test my cooling. I turned all my fans in my P180b to low (SlipStreams) and closed the door. For the most part, it would peak at 55C, however, it must have gotten warm in the room that night because it did peak out at 60C sometime in the night, but was back to 55C when I checked in the morning.

Last night I had it run 10 hours with all the fans on high and the door open and it peaked out at 52C, but was at 50C in the morning.

I've been extremely happy with this chip. The only gripes I have are that like all Core 2's, teh base isn't flat so I'll be lapping next week. I also have a sticky sensor on one of my cores, but I feel safe with the other 3 cores showing correctly.

yup, not many of us were daft enough to buy the q9300, looks like most of us reach 3ghz easy enough then regret either not paying a little extra, or paying a lot less for a q6600 which could have gone faster

Seeing how I got my Q9300 for less than $200, I have no regrets. It's been great so far. I'm not a big overclocker, so the low multiplier isn't a huge deal for me (maybe the cache is).

So again, is this a major problem lol? I should probably shoot for a quad with a higher multi shouldn't I, hopefully by around xmas there will have been a price drop on the higher multi Penryn quads.
Guys are hitting 500 MHz+ with the Gigabyte P45-UD3P motherboard. See this thread Is this the crutch the Q9300 needs?

Not exactly new to oc'ing but am new to the website. However, I just upgraded to the q9300 and have it oc'ed to 3.1 at an vcore of 1.2v. Getting idle temps of:

46c
45c
48c
42c

Anyhoo...looking forward to reading this thread. Might want to send the ol'
q9300 up some cycles .
