It's probably your RAM holding you back--it just can't be the CPU at those speeds. As you increase the FSB your board will push the RAM harder, forcing both the DIMMs and the MCH to work harder. Either could be causing instability.

Set your RAM divider to 1:1. This will make the RAM run at 800MHz when your CPU is at 3GHz, and 900MHz if you get it to 3.375GHz (for example). I'm not sure what your RAM speed is at stock, but if you haven't changed the divider it'll be running at 1.2x it's stock speed right now--that may very well be the max it can tolerate, or that the MCH can tolerate at stock volts.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the MCH (aka northbridge or NB) might need more voltage to run the CPU at FSB's higher than 400. I'm not specifically familiar with the chipset you're on, but all modern MCH's will tolerate up to 1.5v with decent cooling. If you haven't replaced the stock TIM I wouldn't go over 1.4v, but even that will help immensely over the stock voltage.

Give that stuff a try and report back--good luck!

The most commonly used ones are the FutureMark benchies--3dMark and PCMark. SiSoft Sandra and Everest are very popular as well. And the 1M and 32M tests in SuperPi are quite common as well.

Thanks to you both I am now at 3.188GHz (FSB 425, MEMORY 850) My temps are now a question... I loaded SpeedFan, Coretemp, and prime95, my cores are all about 60 as read in core temps, (not sure if this is actual temp although core temp shows me a max Tj (junction temp?) of 105, I read the intel document regarding temp and they suggest a 95 Tj max, Am I running too hot?, next boot I will drop the core voltage and Nb voltage, see if I can drop this a bit, (BTW the VID in coretemp shows 1.225V, I think this is close to where it should be, Yes?

NP Bro,

Try using RealTemp, it has the right TJMax @ 95. IF you have a temp program that uses TJMax @ 105 jusr subtract 10C from the temp and it should match RealTemp. Glad to see you are moving up in the OC speed. As for your vcore @ 1.225v that sounds good for that speed, but make sure that is what BIOS is set to also, I have yet to have a program tell me the right vcore compared to BIOS. I too am going to be trying to lower my NB temps along with my CPU. Good luck to you.

VID showing as 1.225v means that that's the stock voltage for your chip--every chip is different. What voltage are you at right now?

The VID on my chip is 1.05v

CPU-Z shows a Core voltage of 1.296V I am set a little bit higher then that in bios. (Around 1.34) System is stable, Peppy too.

are temps in the upper 50 lower 60s ok or should I be trying to lower this??

Is that under load? If those are your idle temps you're running way too hot. You should *never* let the core temp exceed 70C according to realtemp. Since you're on stock cooling, I'm guessing that at that voltage those are your idle temps.

You should be able to run your current OC on *much* less voltage than you have now. I don't even need 3.4v for 3.45GHz.

Speaking of which, let's update my listing on the first post--I got 460FSB stable:
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=362572

The attached pic looks funny because I took it over a VNC connection--I wanted to shut down the test, but I wasn't physically present at the machine. It's currently at 1.3225v, I'll get that down as low as I can during the week and report back.

Hehe... So much for the fools that said you can't OC the Q9300. n00bs. I'm doing some voltage test this week too. So far I have lowered the NB and SB and still stable. I can't trust auto voltage not to over volt so I'm doing most of it manually. Within the next few weeks I will then start to OC my RAM from 1066 to 1100 then 1133.
I've already got my eVGA 8800GT 1GB AKIMBO 3-Phase to do 760/1900/1050 so that is good to go. Temps at load are kinda high around 73C but I'm sure I can get them down too. Keep up the great work!

Ok the new CoreTemp is out and it works now. 0.99
Got help from someone. Once installed open the Settings.ini file and add this.
TjMaxOffset=-10

Shabam...It works.

Got a question for this club: does anyone know the minimum VCore for 2.5 Ghz operation? Yes. Stock operation. Anyone?

That depends on the VID of the particular chip you get. Mine is 1.05v, PEproES' is 1.225v. You can tell by popping the chip in and launching CoreTemp--it'll show the VID.

However, I suspect you could get the higher VID ones stable at stock speeds on less than stock volts.
