Default help for people who cant get new FSB to stick in windows...

Ok I had this crazy problem where I could POST at my OC'd 3.6 ghz but while in windows it reverted back to my old OC of 3.15. I have heard a few people posting about this so I figured I would shed some light on it. You MUST make sure that you have your nvidia control panel set up for the new FSB or it will underclock you back to whatever that is set up at if you have it set to load your profile with windows...

Just thought that I would post this in case anyone else had these problems because like I said I have seen a few posts about this. So good luck and happy Oc'ing to everyone

nTune is not the best way to overclock. In fact, it causes problems in many systems. you are better off setting your FSB, RAM timings, and voltages in your bios. Then you don't have to worry about them sticking.

A lot of people view ntune as about as helpful as a trojan.

But... NTune is the only overclocking option for brand name computers (I have a dell). Thanks for the info

No I wasnt talking about using ntune to overclock I was saying that when you overclock in the BIOS you have to be sure to change it in the ntune control panel if you have it set up. Because the ntune profile if it loads with windows will load your original OC. So yes by all means dont use ntune to OC but once you do OC and go into windows it will not show up if you have the ntune set to load a default profile for your OC clock because ntune will load whatever FSB that was on the computer when you made the profile.

also I think that nvidia control panel is good for OC'ing the vid card. I have my regular XFX 8800gt upped to the 8800gt extreme edition specs with it and it runs great with low temps. But yea as far as CPU OC'ing BIOS is way to go. I just know of some people that have asked about this so I wanted to steer them to their vid card OC as the culprit namely the NCP
