Another person making the mistake asking how to overclock.. There are so many threads on how to OC, possibly looking wouldn't hurt. Sorry for being harsh but numerous people would come in here saying the exact same thing. Take advantage of the resources available to you and make it happen.

Raise your FSB by little increments and check for stability and look in the forums please!

Well, I'll be nice. Make your multiplier 7.5, make your FSB 467, your vcore at 1.4V, put your DIMM voltage .1V above stock, make your timings pretty loose if the kit is already running stock, something like 7-7-7-21 or 9-9-9-27. Boot up and see if that did it. Post back here if you ran into problems. Good luck!

Umm...this is a 45nm chip we're talking about here. Don't go any higher than 1.3625v unless you want to risk shortening the life of your CPU.

One can put an E8400 at 1.4V, and that's a 45nm...I would say that it's fine. If you want to be overly cautious, it probably won't hurt to back down to 1.35V, though.

laff. 1.4v on 45nm isn't squat. I've gone to 1.525v for benching, and run 1.425v with LLC enabled for 24/7.

Tell me, are there actually any cases of a 45nm CPU dying due to high vcore? Or is it just a bunch of people with their panties in a bunch over nothing?

Plus, the OP is on water.

Water doesn't make electron migration stop. It's not about the temps, it's about the voltage. 1.4v on a 45nm is too much, and WILL kill the CPU much faster than normal, and i've heard of several people killing 45nm CPUs that weren't running too much vcore over 1.3625v.

BTW, that 1.425v 24/7 on your 45nm CPU is like me running my Q6600 at about 1.6v 24/7. Would you do that?

I was among the first dozen or so here to pick up a Wolfdale and OC back in Feb. 2008. Numerous incidents and reports of cpu degradation occur when over volting the 45nm cpus.
This is not coincidence.
Some here may have plenty money to risk here, but most prefer to make their computer setups to last. Keep it safe and under 1.3625 vc and you'll be happier in the long run.
Just my .02 cents, peace

45nm degradation is not degradation at all. The 45nm CPUs have an initial burn in period (generally about a week) where they will run with lower voltage. Then, the voltage required for the same overclock will increase a bit, and then stay put. See this extensive thread for more info:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=179965

Can you link to these people who killed their CPUs? Vcore is not the killer, but if they were using a high VTT or PLL, that is a sure fire way to get the chip killed.

I am aware of electromigration, however, the point at which it becomes something to seriously worry about is way underestimated by many people, due to the initial 45nm scare when people started experiencing the burn in.

Oh, yes I would run a Q6600 at 1.6v 24/7. I used to run my E6750 at 1.65 24/7, and it was perfect right up until I took it out of commission. And no, I do not have a lot of money. In fact, I would say I am worse off financially than most people on forums like these.
