Vcore 1.33125(1.312 in cpu-z)
VTT 1.3
PLL 1.57

CPU Reference .793 (.73 in EasyTune)
MCH 1.36
MCH Reference .763 (.70 in EasyTune)
Dram Voltage 2.16 (2.13 in SpeedFan)

CPU Clock 800mV
PCI Clock 900mV
CPU Clock Skew 50ps
PCI Clock Skew

My goal is to get it up to 533x8 or 533x8.5 so I can run my ram full speed at a 1:1 ratio with 6-6-6-18 timings, however, I have not been able to get it stable yet.

Here is the hardware I am working with:
E8400 EO
Gigabye EP45-UDR3
G.Skill 1066 6-6-6-18 rated at 2-2.1

I have tried running 533x8 and gotten it to boot but even with vcore set at 1.38(1.36 in cpu-z) and some adjustments to the CPU and MCH References, it will not run Ortheros blend test for more than a few minutes. I always get a rounding error. "Rounding was .5 expected less than .4."

Is this a problem with the CPU settings or the ram speed or voltage?

Can someone explain how the CPU/PCI Clock Drive and Skews work.

Also, I am starting to understand CPU and MCH reference and what it does, but I am not sure yet how to set those values in order to find that "sweet spot".

Any help would be much appreciated,
-Nfomaniac
First fill in your system specs in the user CP at the top of the page.
Umm 533X8 is very difficult to do. It's not a big gain to run your memory at the exact specs it's rated for. How far have you OC to so far?

I added my system and put it in my sig.

I have gotten it up to 500x8 with 1.312v in CPU-z. (Going on 10 hours of ortheros blend test right now). I have gotten close to 515x8, but it failed Ortheros after about 20 minutes.

If I cannot get 533x8 or 533x8.5 I would like to at least get 500X8.5 or 500x9. I have been doing most of the overclocking at night because it is way too hot here to keep the temps down during the day.

I have been told that this chip can handle temps of up to 85C during load. I accidentally let it jump to 92C for a split second before I stopped Ortheros, I don't think I did any damage though. From what I understand voltage is a much bigger killer of these chips than heat is.

I recently took a computer structures class and learned all about the ARM processors, however, we did not learn much at all about more modern CPU design. I am really curious to learn how VTT, PLL, MCH and CPU References, PCI and CPU Clock Drives and skews work.

Any help would be much appreciated,

@ nfomaniac

Here is a link for my 533x8.5, however, I haven't stressed it yet.

PLL works like this.

Zippit asked much the same question yesterday here. I attempted to answer it a few posts afterwards and again today a few pages later.

your vCore seems a little low for anything over 500x8, to me... others will disagree, and they are probably right.. unless you have a high VID chip like mine.

Here is a form I was given to use in order to keep track of my OCs. Print them off and WRITE you settings as you attempt stability. Then, when you find stability, fill it out on your machine and file it for future use. Also, it helps us help you if you fill one out and post it here.

I tried to get 4.5ghz today and was unsuccessful, I was able to post and partially boot into windows but I BSOD'd at the scroll bar. Im not sure if my chip just needs an insane amount of Vcore in order to push it to 4.5+ or if its just the P45 chipset is more efficient at overclocking than the P35 is. Here was the settings I tried.

Mattb2e you might want to loosen your timings a little when going that high. And your PLL seems a little high but that's iffy. Every thing else looks pretty good.

Which timings would you be referring to? I did loosen my strap from 333mhz, which is what I have it at for 4.0 to 400mhz as well as upping the NB voltage from 1.31 to 1.4v .

I have been told 1.6v PLL is ok for higher clocks, but as you said its iffy. My ram is running below rated frequency at that clock so I doubt that is any problem. I dont know, maybe my CPU just needs like 1.5v to go that high.

Well when I go that high I keep my strap at 333 but loosen from 555-15 to 677-18 or 20 it just seems to help. Grunion pumps like 1.55 to his and he seems fine but I would not do it. I used 1.47v to hit 4.8
