Default Intel Q6600 is only a 3.6GHz Single Core?

Hey OCN,

I just got my new Q6600, EVGA 750i FTW, and 4GB of OCZ 1066Mhz RAM! I was glad to see my Q6600 i got in a new retail box for newegg.com was infact a GO and its got a VID of 1.275 so its a great OC'er! I set the FSB to 1600 right from the start and i have got no BSOD's since! But i soon found out that it is only using 1 of the 4 cores! Its reading 4 cores in the POST message but when i get to XP or Vista i only have 1 Core and 1 thread! Anyone know how to enable my Quad core? BTW all 4 cores are enabled in the BIOS!

EDIT: I fixed this after 3 CPU Reseats, 6 Windows Installs, and 1 BIOS Flash! After the 6th Reinstall it finnaly worked!

did you reinstall windows? If so then go to device manager and uninstall your processor and reboot, it should find and install it

oh and drop it down to 3.0ghz there is no way it will run if you havent set the voltage in the bios and tested it

something similar happened to me when I had an E6600, only 1 of the cores was enabled. I think that it was a result of blindly overclocking without any real testing. I just punched in 400x9 and typed in some random number for vcore. It was no where near stable and only one core showed to be running. When I raised the vcore, both cores showed to be operating.

Well i can see how that would work but, It does this at the stock voltage and stock speeds, even after a CMOS Reset it does this even though all four cores are enabed!

EDIT: Also in CPU-z it only shows some of the Info! It does not show the FSB speed!
