I think it depends on your GPU and what resolution you are playing at. According to this review http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...el_e8500/8.htm

between an overclocked e8500 to 4.3 Ghz and a Q6600 at stock speeds using an 8800 GT, there was an overall increase of 30 FPS! (playing at "gamer" settings at 1024 x 768 with x2 AA). However, once the resolution increases to 1680x1050 the over fps gain is only 0-5 fps. If you want to spend money on a new processor and play at "lower" resolutions than downgrading your processer from a quad to a pumped up high oc E8500/E8600 E0 stepping MAY improve your fps overall an average of 15 fps. In addition, that $200+/- can also buy you a GTX 260 896 MB which also will improve your overall fps an average of 10 fps compared to a 4850.

My E8600 E0 stepping is coming tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to get it to 4.5 Ghz. If I don't see at least a 7-10 fps increase in my Crysis benchmark at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 "gamer" settings than I am going to return it and get myself a GTX 260 896 MB.

Overclocking a processor and then returning it because it doesn't return the gains you want or it doesn't clock high enough is beyond pathetic. In fact, I'd love to see every single person on these boards who engage in such behavior get ran over by a garbage truck.

Now overclock the Q6600 to 3.4 and see how it does with 1000MHz more clock speed....

Thats a pretty pathetic review...
