i was just testing this... same everything.. E8400@4.0 with Q6600@3.2

similar.. but look at the SMs scores , it makes a big difference, i can feel quite lower fps when gaming with my Q6600,.. if you do like 85% gaming, go for E8xxx...

In games the 8400 will pwn the Q66 since most games aren't using 4 cores.
but the CPU play not a little but still significantly less than the GPU in the games.
I'd go for any CPU that can take over all the 70 processes on the PC while I game without eating my FPS. which is a quad in my case.

So the quad will still be faster at 3.6 than the e8400,maybe worth it imo.

no no, the CPU will only be faster in non gaming. the 8400 at 4.0 is faster in games.

70 processes? I've got a 198 processes running! And a few weeks ago (I forget who) somebody tried to tell me I should run a E8600!

Not for gaming, since games don't take much advantage of more than two cores.

If you're doing much else, then the quad will probably beat the dual core.

When asking about gaming cpu it has been asked and answer 10000000000000000000 times...

GHz will win as far as FPS go, so Q or Dual, which ever one is clocked higher will get more FPS....

However, if you think by going from a Q6600 @ 3.6 to an E8400 @ 4.0 is going to be grabbing you a huge bump your going to be disappointed... I would say you will see an average of around 5-10 FPS in games....

If your using a Q6600 @ 3.65 now I wouldnt switch to an E8xx unless your sure it will clock to 4.2 or better...

Save your $ and get an X38 board and another 4850

And as for "Games dont use quads" it is not a fact... The app itself may not be multi threaded, which is why Q vs E doesnt matter in most games, but windows will still be ditributing the load across all four cores, which in turn will make for lower temps, and less stress on the system..
