Default E6600 / 680i SLI Voltage Discrepancy

Greetings,

I've been working on nudging up my system specs a bit, and I've managed to secure a stable CPU overclock at 375 x 8 on my E6600. Higher than that, and I've run into problems with stability that I think may be related to voltage. I've got my BIOS set to 1.500v, which is the max recommended by Intel. However, according to the output on CPU-Z, the actual voltage is 1.456. Can anyone help explain the discrepancy? Would it be safe to go a bit higher in BIOS and rely on the CPU-Z display? Thanks to all who are able to help.

its called vDrop and what you are seeing in windows is the actual voltage going into your chip, so go by what cpuz says not the bios

Great, thanks for the explanation! Do you think it's safe to go a bit higher with the voltage and bump up the speed a bit more?

Do a vdroop pencil mod and your vdroop will go away. I did the mod on my 680i and I got my old E6600 stable under 1.4v.
