I switched out CPU coolers and whne I wnet to boot up the machine would run for a few seconds and then shut off. I got another MB (UD3R) and it did the same thing. I figured it had to be the processor after swapping out PSU and other components. I sent it to Intel and they sent me a new processor.

Come to find out the processor was most likely not bad. I was not mounting the CPU Cooler tight enough or to tight and I think it was flexing the MB. Either way I win.

any one know what the safe temps are for these chips? my max load is barely below 70 about 65-68. idle temps are 40-45.

are these safe or what?
its on stock cooling and thermal paste too.

Anyone know why my system would run 15 runs of Intel Burn Test with no problems and then fail after 3 runs from running it again? Unstable? Step up the vcore?

try 3 hours of OCCT and PRIME95 overnight. If it doesnt fail then your good. also at 3.96ghz try upping your vcore to 1.3 that might fix it.

Someone from another thread with the same board as me helped me out. My board undervolts vtt by about .08v so I upped the vtt a little and now I can do back to back 15 pass runs of IBT.

However last night I decided to run OCCT and core 3 failed after 30 mins so i have some more tweaking to do tonight. 1.325v vcore right now going to go up a little and see if it helps.

just dont go too high on that VTT it can potentially harm your CPU. oh and whats ur chips VID? if its a high one say like 1.27 u need more vcore to make it stable as per say a chip with a VID of 1.20-1.25

u can start overclocking your CPU if you want to. lol. ive got stock cooler and heatsink on and its overclocked to 3.4ghz with 1.15vcore OCCT, Prime95 stable. highest temp was 70 degrees in OCCT. also i live in SOCAL and its summer here ambient temps reach about 80 degrees. theres no reason not to OC

I'm about to head to Microcenter to pick up a q9550 after work.

Anyone care to guess what my 780i will be capable of?

I see a lot of you have Gigabyte EP45 boards.
