1.4v+ on the NB is bad for Quads? Where is that coming from? (I run 1.47v to make the 3.84 stable, anything lower sometimes either drops 2 cores or slows my 4870X2 down to a crawl) (I know over 1.4V vCore is bad for the 45nm quads which I never have needed to use) I seriously cannot find enough info on the Rampage and Quad Cores overclocking wise. there are good writeups for the Maximus as well as a lot of rampages with duels but not for ours alone.

As far as northbridge issues are as I have seen is the heat the NB makes at anything above 1.5v. I got it to run orthos stable for an hr (before I stopped it) at 1.55v but as soon as I put a load on the NB by running Vantage it eventually crashed once the heat reached 72C.

I am thinking of pulling off the motherboard cooler and putting on some AS as some others have on here. I would also like to slap a fan on here. Are there any tips on how to put one on the current heatsync setup? I believe there was a small fan just screwed into the fins on a post around here somewhere.

zooterboy is referring to 1.40v on FSB Termination/CPU Termination/VTT being dangerous. A QX9650 died over at Anadtech and they attributed it to high VTT. Article is here. There is, however, someone at XS who ran an extremely high VTT for months with no problems. Thread is here. You can make your own conclusion on what you think is safe.

Ahh... Well I might just drop her down to the first setting and see how that treats her. If I have problems I can push her up till she is stable. ATM I have her at 4ghz again and she is running ok at i believe 1.38vtt. Worth bringing the voltages back and seeing where she like it.

*update* Well brought the VTT down to the lowest setting (1.20 I believe) which shows as 1.14 in Windows. Running orthos now but it ran Vantage twice now with no issues. Now to bring the Vcore down a bit to see how things pan out. This CPU and Board run like a champ together. After all this tuning I need to take to the ram.

Greetings everybody. New guy here getting ready to purchase a system to build. I haven't built a PC in several years and put these specs together (should be in my sig) before finding this forum. Finding this thread and a few others on the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P have made me very pleased with the config I am looking into. As a first time overclocker, can anybody take a look at the specs and see if you think I should do something differently, or give me some words of wisdom?

Ok so my 4.0Ghz at 1.2 VTT (1.14 windows) was ok for Vantage runs but it would fail rounding in orthos on a core. Brought it up to 1.3 (1.24 windows) and it still failed. Now im at 1.4 (1.34 Windows) and she seams to be playing nice. Ill keep you guys posted on her stability and whatnot as I test her then bring her vcore back.

Na she still didnt like to round down.. Hmm. Added a smidge vcore and now she is running longest yet. Darn I wanted less vcore for 4.0. We shall see. Hopefully i can still lower the VTT down to stock again.
