Is it worth getting a UD3P for 4 ghz? I'm currently @ 3.6 and it's not stable enough. Just around the corner stable i mean. I can't buy a new cpu since i bought this one and my mobo is holdin me back. What you say?

OK (E0 rev)
Rig's up and running. I got it to 450*8.5 = 3.8. Real world 3d rendering is fine. But when I try OCCT, it instantly gives me an error - yesterday on Core#3, today on Core#1. Looking at the graphs it generated, the temp spiked high (like 80c) But in rendering, the temp maxed at 70 (which is too high, but still stable).

I haven't changed any voltages - in fact they are on auto.

edit while writing this: it just crashed with BIOS error: Overclock failure. Went back to 433*8.5. Will post later results and testing.

using AC Freezer Xtreme cooler with factory MX-2 thick wad of paste... should I replace with AS-5?

Voltages on auto? That's a mistake that you really don't want to make. Set them manually unless you want to fry something.

antimatter, I have the same rig as you (P5Q PRO, Q9550). I use 1.2375v vcore (try more, ie 1.3v), 1.28v FSB Termination, 1.36v NB for 3.83ghz. Hope that helps.

thanks Lyall - I'll try those. I think I also need to re-seat my hsf - I reset the BIOS to default, and OCCT still crashed with hot temps. It's idling (with speedstep on 333*6) at ~36.

PS - how do I make a different 'system' my default under my sig below?

hows that ac extreme mount? is it push-pins, bolt-thru? does it have a backplate? either way any factory applied tim is junk, i'd say remount with some as5 cause those temps are waaaaay to high. also i gree w/ plugout, never leave volts on auto when ocing, you could easily fry something cause your mobo will crank them to whatever it pleases to try to make the system stable.
