In the UK it is extremely hard to get rubbing alcohol. I went through the same thing last month, walked in to drug stores, grocery stores, pharmacies and they all looked at me like I had two heads.

I finally found it in Maplin. There, hopefully there is one close to you. But be forewarned, it is VERY expensive.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=28994

That one is pressurized, but I found the liquid form in the store.

Good Luck.

Wow, I wonder why isopropyl alcohol is so hard to come by in the UK

I use acetone, the stuff that comes in a big can by Kleen-strip. Makes short work of thermal compound, and some thermal adhesives.

i use to just wipe with a paper towel, but now i use rubbing alcohol with q-tip and wipe it with paper towel. you can see its much cleaner. i just hope there's no chemical reaction with the thermal paste?

a bottle of 99% iso is cheap enough and will last you a very long time. i suggest just going out and picking one up from any drug store.

I recently used 70% isopropyl alcohol to remove the paste. Worked pretty well.

for quickness sakes, i use a sock or rag

but for uber perfectionism, i dampen a cloth with alc. makes very little if any measurable difference though
