Default A quick one about stability...

Increasing clock speeds causes instability if voltages aren't set higher for the most part. However, do temperatures have an effect on stability as well or is it just to check to make sure you don't go over the limit on burning/killing the CPU?

For example, if I get a better cooling to bring down my temps, would that change how stable my overclock is?

Basically, when you bring down the temps with better cooling, you give yourself more head room to o/c. Temps don't really have anything to do with stability, unless your so high that your CPU throttles down.

Temps don't really affect stability, but you can overclock further if your temps are lower.

No, temps don't directly affect stability. They will however, affect longevity, which is why Intel/AMD gives each CPU a 'thermal spec' or maximum safe operating temperature. Keep in mind, lots of people (myself included) don't worry too much about the thermal spec as CPUs will throttle themselves before serious damage is done...

That's what I thought...cause I'm planning on upgrading my cpu cooler. Wasn't sure if temperature was a cause for instability. Thanks guys. I would rep gib also but there's no option
