i skipped quads and went straight for i7. I'll never look back. i7=win.

i7 defo, I have a C1 Q9550 and although I love it I wish I had waited a month and got a i7 instead. I also agree with waiting for that D0 stepping, would be silly not to really

Though I gotta say there doesn't seem much wrong with your current setup tbh, but I'm a bit n00bish to overclocking in comparason.

for $50 more go i7, for sure.
i7 is new tech but pretty soon core 2 is turning 3 years old.

It really depends what the main use of the computer is gonna be used for. If this is just for PC gaming get the Q9550, if you do video editing/encoding, 3D rendering and other stuff like that get an i7 unless money is an issue

if you even have the choice , get the i7, there is no comparison, bu if your oin a budget then you have to make that decision, but there is no comparison.

i7, you are not gonna see any performance gain from your outdated Q9550, at least I didn't see it when I switched from E8500 to Q9550.
