From what I understand..

1.25v max (box sticker): Scare off overclockers
1.3625v max VID: Max vcore without shortening life span (at all?)
1.45v max: "Sigh after sigh after sigh if you really insist" type of thing, then don't exceed this voltage, but lifespan is highly questionable.
not really, it does not say 1.25v Max on the box..

1.3625 is the max VID as you said, but it is the max VCore you can receive when you buy a chip.

For anyone with an e5x00 chip that cares.

Been running mine at 3.83Ghz with 1.43v and its now starting to act up. Had to reduce clock to remain stable.

But I have had it like this for a little over year. About have of that year the computer has been almost 24/7.

How often have you been running stress tests? I've been running 1.46v on my e5200 for right at a year now. No signs of degrading yet. You have to run tests every now and then. An unstable OC will degrade your proc.

sounds like you failed to meet the other criteria

I've had my e5200 @ 1.47 for a while (for 4GHz) and it still runs fine. But sadly Its back at stock for my casemod projects.. which I hope is fine with the CPU.

I had been doing one every month or so just to be sure it was still stable. Used IBT for it. Always stable until recently. If anything, I think it has been temps that have caused a degradation.

I suppose I might have to just re-install the heatsink. Its possible that I had an air bubble or something that has caused it to dry out. Plus, the Zalman I have isn't all that great. It does a good job, but the temps have always been a higher than I wanted (Under full load, I have been right around max temps for the chip)

As far as my system goes as a whole, it started as a budget build just to get me going. I had no intention of running the components for more than 2 years before I upgrade to something better. I've been gradually replacing parts as I kill them off. lol (3870 died -> Now GTX 260; 500w budget PSU died -> Now Corsair 850tx; etc.)

1.) Electrical Specification must be satisfied (1.55v for 65nm CPU and 1.45v for 45nm CPU)

2.) Signal Quality must be clear (Overclock must be perfectly stable, GTL lanes may need to be tweaked)

3.) Mechanical specifications met (There is not a physical defect and the insides have not previously been gutted by running 1.9v through it)

4.) Thermal Specifications must be satisfied (The IHS temp must be below Tcase)

Depends on my room ambient temps. Max is anywhere from 72-80 (72 being a/c or winter w/ window opened, and 80 being middle of summer)

That's why I'm pretty sure it was the heat that was probably getting to this thing. During the summer (while I'm back home from school) I have nothing better to do aside from working at a Hardware Store (and just dial-up for intrawebz), so I just game all day on it with whatever I have. Crysis, Stalker, Fallout3, CODWAW, etc.

This board doesn't give me any GTL options I'm aware of, and the chip should have been free of defects as it was new w/o problems, so. . . that's why I'm pretty sure I wasn't satisfying the "thermal specs" portion of the show. I'll be considering water cooling for my next build (when the magic cash fairy finally bestows upon me some much needed dough. lol)

All in all, I was just reporting back on my success / failure with this chip at < 1.36vCore. Just so someone else could take it for what its worth.

I've had to adjust OC due to seasonal ambient changes. CPUs I've clocked and tested in the winter, I've had to lower clocks during the summer months to adjust for rising core temps.

You know what, I just realized something. I've really only had 1bsd with this chip recently. And the other times, I have woken up to find that I'm booted back into Linux and not Windows (Because I do a dual boot with linux as default).

I just now realize that when I install my professional copy of win7, i left the default windows update settings. So at 3am (while I sleep) the computer restarts from the updates. I've been thinking that its been crashing when I'm not paying attention to it.

So really, my OC at 3.8 is probably still fine. I just assumed it wasn't and backed it down. With how hard I pushed / killed my 3870, I figured this was perhaps pushed too far as well. (I wanted something better than the 3870 anyways. And I should hold a couple records for the card, but the thread is apparently dead)
