I'm not sure that 1.392 is your correct VID. I would use core-temp to see what the vid is.

Anyways - You shouldn't have to play with your multiplier to get a 3.0GHz OC on that chip. I would first adjust your FSB to 300 (300 x 9 = 2.7GHz). Boot up and check for stability. You don't have to run a 24 hour prime test or anything...but you want to make sure you are stable at a 300Mhz OC before you jump to a 600 Mhz OC.

If you are stable at 2.7GHz...then go back and increase the FSB to 333 (333 x 9 = 3.0GHz). You very well might be stable without increasing VCore...but if your not - then you have to adjust the Vcore slightly to get stability.

are you sure about that VID? I've never heard of a Q6600 being that high...

I wouldn't worry about decreasing the life of your chip until you start peaking 3.6Ghz...

First see how much FSB you can have stable...start with 6x400, then 6x425, 450 etc... Then start adding multiplier and adding voltage.

1.315 sounds a lot better. If you are where you want to be overclocking wise, 8 hours is usually what I do. If I am working my way up, say I want to go from 2.4 to 3.4, I do 10 min each time I increase the FSB. Thats just my way of doing it.

also any tips fly on OCing my cpu ?
It's very hard to "harm" your CPU, more than likely you'll corrupt your OS first. However if you follow the incremental increase procedure, that is the saftest way. For faster overclock, follow clbkdaz's advice.

Somebody also mention that you should check out this thread: http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...0i-thread.html

I like to run a good 15 minutes or so of something that taxes the system to make sure there are no crashes. Beleive it or not...3DMark is a good tester for those incremental increases. Also - you can see the scores coming up as your OC improves...it's like a little bonus.

I dont own that board...so I can't really say exactly where the FSB (Front Side Bus) adjustments are made, but usually they are under "Advanced Chipset Features" or something to that effect.

Check out the guides to the P5N linked in several of the posts above to see exactly where you can find it on that particular board.

Yeah- The Vendetta should be just fine for the set-up.

You really won't need to OC much to enjoy gaming with the quad, since most games out there can hardly utilize 2 cores, let alone 4. I've been more than satisfied with my 3GHz Q6600 for gaming...so I imagine you will be as well.
