Default Need Help OverClocking my Q6600

hi guys well i have just ordered my OCZ Vendetta 2 cooler and it will reach me in an hour and so i can start OCing it as soon as it comes

i wanted to ask all the people who have actually achieved 3.0 GHZ on there Q6600 my version is the GO version(thats what CPUZ says in revision) and it is Kentsfield in Code Name

i dont wanna OC it too much but i want to overclock it to the extent that it gives me good results

now before u tell me how to do the OC i wanna tell u that iam not interested in volt modding at all and for me i wanna use the most easiest part of OC

i just want 3.0 or more which actaully helps me in gaming (helping me achieve good AA or AF if CPu has to do anything with it)

just tell me how to OC it safely to 3.0 GHZ or at a speed which gives me good performance

i will start to OC more as i learn about it but i dont wanna OC it 2 much or to damage my CPU in any way

thanxs for any help

Depending on the VID of your q6600 you may be able to get to 3.00ghz without increasing the Vcore.

Just understand that there is a difference between volt modding your motherboard and increasing the voltage your chip gets. In order to get a stable overclock you will probably HAVE to increase your voltage (at some point).

To get to 3ghz just simply boot into your Bios and set your multiplier to 9, and your core speed to 333 (or 334). 9x333 = 3ghz.

Boot back into windows... load up CoreTemp or RealTemp, to monitor temps, 70c is about as high as you want it to run... and then run SmallFFT test in Prime95 for a couple of hours.

I saw a good increase going from 2.4-3.0

I was also able to get 3.0Ghz(9x333) without adding voltage... and my VID is 1.325.

ok i have a question here to all of u guys

well as u can see in this review of gtx 260 http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-12.html

u can see they list that they get like 162 FPS with no AA at 1680 and get like minimum of 80 FPS at 1680 at 4AA and 16AF

now why does my card get low FPS?

i only get 120 FPS max and when i play like normal it comes down to mayb 70' or 80's

and when u get boomed at my fps droppes to the likes of 40's (but never lower than this)

now is it coz my Q6600 is not OC and after mayb overclocking it the FPS will go up or is it something wrong with my 260?

the Oc i have done to my card is in my rig

You're comparing apples and bannanas. They have a QX9770@3.8ghz, of course they'll get alot better frame rate.

If you can get your Q6600 to 3ghz or more, you'll see some noticable difference.
