E0 (SLB8V) q9550, is that stepping good? There is a guy selling one for $240, should I buy it if it is still available? If I got it I would want to get to 4ghz for 24/7 usage? Think I could do it on my board?

Maybe I shouldn't impulse buy. I could probably get a q9650 at the end of summer for pretty cheap. Maybe I should just save up. I was just gonna try to get that 9550 for $200, but probably, I should not waste my money, since my cpu is just fine.

EO stepping is good but I dont think your board can do 475 FSB with a quad. I know the 780i and 780i are a little better with the quads. I can tell you I dont remember seeing anyone with a Q9550 @ 4.0 with a 750i board

It's good. Really good. 0.5 increase in multi isn't worth $$ believe me. With a proper mobo like ud3p , 4 ghz is guaranteed. But you can add up 40 bucks and get a new one imo.

Ya, 4Ghz is hard to obtain with Q9550. Newegg has Q9550 for $270 FS. You may want to spend a little more and get it new.

That's a good stepping, and $240 is less than $270(newegg) so I'd say go for it.With your mobo I don't think you'd get 4.0.The only way to know for sure would be to try it.Is this cpu used?GL

Oh, ok, I probably wont buy it then. It is a new cpu though. If anyone lives in the bay area you should pick it up. Not sure if it's still availiable though.http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/sys/1145242568.html

Ask if he can go with $210 or $215, if not $225 is great.
