So I was trying to buy an e8400 from this guy on craigs list, but he nalready sold it for $100. But he asked if I wanted a quad, and I was like hell yeah! Then he said it's a used q9650 from a work station pc, and it goes for about $300. Then I said how about $200 cash, then he said... hmm... OK. Yeah!!!
__________________I hope the sale goes through. Do you think I can do 4ghz, 'cuz if not I'm gonna be pissed, since I was gonna try and buy a q6600 for $65, but thought a q9650 is better. Should I get a $65 q6600, or a $200 q9650?

Great idea, I am still checking if I can get the q6600 for that price, and the dumb guy for the q9650 hasn't e-mailed me back with his phone number yet. If he backs out, I am gonna be pissed since he already approved the price!

Just got my q9650! So, do I just pop it in my mobo, and make sure the bios settings are correct? I never switched to a different cpu before. Just pop it in and go?

If this is your first time, it shouldn't be too difficult so long as you keep a couple things in mind.
__________________Push-pin heatsinks are a PITA so be careful not to break them when you take it off. Wiggle it off since the stock thermal grease should be stuck on there pretty well. Clean the old grease off the heatsink with isopropyl alcohol (I use 99% from Safeway for $3). Put in the new CPU making sure you align it correctly. Put on some new thermal grease. You'll probably want to put a rice-grain sized dot in the center. Reseat your heatsink making sure that all pushpins are in. When you turn on your computer, set the bios to optimized defaults (I think that's what its called).
