When I get home, I am going to put the vcore at 1.45volts and hopefully get 4ghz stable. I hope it doesn't kill my cpu to run it 24/7.

Also, do you think 1.3vtt, and 1.5NB is ok?

That sucks about your chip man, I actually had to go check my box on my 9550 and it says 1.25 max, and its an older chip too. Personally I would run it at the max voltage you can with LLC on and screw the chip if you have some extra cash or chip. Hell you might hit 4ghz at 1.45 and run for years.

If you can't live with a crummy chip, then don't do it to yourself. Crazy though I think this is the first I have heard of a bad q9650 overclock.

Hmm i thought my Q9650 had a high VID with 1.2875v.But it would do 4.2ghz on my 780i-A1 with about 1.325v.You should be able to hit 4.0ghz pretty easy.

did you try running it with the multiplier lowered and the same fsb? just to see if the chip was what is giving you the instability. worth a shot. and i thought vtt was just for upping the fsb. if you get it stable with stock vtt and the multiplier is lowered then you shouldnt have to mess with it. 1.45v is gana make that thing hot. i hope youre on water
why would you want such a high voltage on your nb?

I am just gonna volt the hell out of this baby and hope it last for 2 years. C'mon 4ghz stability!

Oh yeah, this chip is extremely cool, I am amazed at the temps. My e7200 is hotter than this at stock.

I have a buyer for the chip. Think I should sell it and take my chances with a brand new Q9550? I don't know if I could get 4ghz on my board, but maybe.

In my opinion, VID doesn't matter. You get chips that like a lot of vcore past a certain point and some that will clock high on next to no vcore. I mean, my Q9550 has a vid of 1.25v but does 3.83ghz on 1.20v and my old E6600 with a vid of 1.3375v would go to 3ghz on 1.19v.

Yes, sell your NASTY Q9650, and buy either another Q9650 or Q9550 from Pao_Revolt on ebay

Yeah, i'm just going to throw it out there that Kurosu got screwed with this chip, even though I agree with you (to an extent) on VID. I can run 3.8GHz at 1.18v (which is below my VID of 1.2v)

And MetalTom, 1.25v is probably your max VID that intel will ship out, not the max vcore for your chip.

Max vcore for 45nm cpu is 1.3625v

Hmmm... it was only $200, and it has passed two minutes of line pack at 1.45vcore. If it is completely stable maybe I will just keep it and hope it doesn't crap out.

Gonna do some more testing.
