When I get home, I am going to put the vcore at 1.45volts and hopefully get 4ghz stable. I hope it doesn't kill my cpu to run it 24/7.

If you can't live with a crummy chip, then don't do it to yourself. Crazy though I think this is the first I have heard of a bad q9650 overclock.

Hmm i thought my Q9650 had a high VID with 1.2875v.But it would do 4.2ghz on my 780i-A1 with about 1.325v.You should be able to hit 4.0ghz pretty easy.

I have a buyer for the chip. Think I should sell it and take my chances with a brand new Q9550? I don't know if I could get 4ghz on my board, but maybe.

In my opinion, VID doesn't matter. You get chips that like a lot of vcore past a certain point and some that will clock high on next to no vcore. I mean, my Q9550 has a vid of 1.25v but does 3.83ghz on 1.20v and my old E6600 with a vid of 1.3375v would go to 3ghz on 1.19v.

And MetalTom, 1.25v is probably your max VID that intel will ship out, not the max vcore for your chip. Max vcore for 45nm cpu is 1.3625v

Hmmm... it was only $200, and it has passed two minutes of line pack at 1.45vcore. If it is completely stable maybe I will just keep it and hope it doesn't crap out.
