Default E8600 @ 4gh

Guys,

Just a quick question. Is it ok to run my E8600 overclocked at 4ghz all of the time?

My vcore is at 1.248 and temps under orthos stress testing are between 37 and 45.

Not wanting to go absolutley bonkers with the overclock but i think 4ghz is a realistic option.

It is. And very respectable Vcore, and temps as well. If its fully stable, there is nothing wrong with running it 24/7 at that OC. Hell, if it was me I would push for 4.5ghz! LOL! Nice job on the OC btw.

Good idea. Enjoy, and have fun tweaking. Its always a nice reward when things work out the way you want them to.

Many people leave their CPUs overclocked more than 1.0 GHz over stock, so just having it 700 MHz over stock is nothing.

Speaking of the temps, did you select the "Small FFTs" test in Orthos? The default selection is the Blend test.

Either way, you are doing a great job; keep it up. I bet you could get that to go a little over 4.3 GHz. As long as the Small FFTs load temps don't exceed approximately 70°C, then it's considered good. But if it were to exceed 70°C by a little bit, then it's still ok. It would take a whole lot more than that to fry the CPU. However, if it gets too warm, then instability will be the first result.

heck yeah, nothing wrong with 700 mhz especially at low voltage that's the key...my e8600 is somewhat similar it needs about 1.25 volts for 4.0 ghz stable and mobo doesn't have another step down that isn't too little for it to be stable...but this is what I have for my 24/7 overclock now after a lot of testing, I was actually looking for 600fsb but only can do it with much lower multi/megahertz and needs much more volts on processor and fsb to do it. So your overclock is fairly mild is my point and even this I'm showing you is well within reasonable limits on voltage so I'm sure before my mobo or cpu gives out the setup will be quite obsolete...
