For that price of the q6700 on that website, if you want a quad for that price, you're better off going with a q8400 since it's only about twenty bucks more on newegg and should run cooler/use less power (and likely overclock easier). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115057

Again, the Q8400 has a multiplier of 8x, which is pretty low.

I guess I could actually upgrade to another motherboard down the road to increase processor performance, though, so maybe a Q6700 isn't the best option. IDK. Also, the Q6700 has twice as much cache as the Q8400...

My current deal with a member on the forum consists of me trading my 4890 for an 8400 + $100.

That's what I was worried about, since I know that the latest VIDs for Q6600s haven't been great either.

What about this Q9450 for $227? I realize they don't make these anymore and that it is an OEM, but it looks like a fantastic deal since it has 12MB of cache: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=Q9450

Ah, I see. Plus, the 650i might have issues overclocking 45nm quads as high as dual cores (not that our boards are all that similar, but my board is awful at clocking quads, whereas duals are not a problem). But regarding the cache--it likely won't matter to any extent.

That 8400 deal sounds pretty good--I think you should go with that if you don't care to keep your 4890.

If you're buying an E8400 second hand couldn't you find a used Q6600/Q6700 that's a proven overclocker?

Personally, I'd buy the Q6700, but that's only because I think a reasonably clocked quad would last longer down the road compared to a 4GHz E8400. I'm probably wrong on that, and I'm sure most people here won't hold onto their CPU as long as I'm planning to.

Not using the 650i since it has 3 phase power...I'm using the IP35-E which is slightly better and has 4 phase power I believe. Still not an amazing quad overclocker, but much better than the 650i to be sure.
