Are you near the Detroit boarder
Sadly Im quite a few hours from the US border With the Canadian dollar at 85 cents to the American dollar, the processor should not cost so much more. The Q9400 is only a 40-50 dollar difference, where as the Q9550 is 60-100 dollars depending on the store in Canada vs the US. Its robbery!

dont go for the Q9400 .. a pain in the ass for overclocking .. chips like this dont go very high since their low multi and lousy revision (based on my experience with my chip).. if u can, get a Q9400 [ES] one, should be better..

just wait till the end of the year. You'll have more to choose from to get the performance out of your computer. You can go i5 or even i7 cheaper than now depending on your needs or you can just upgrade to a dx11 gpu for gaming.

Right now upgrading a quad regardless of freq, to another 775 quad is a waste of money. I mean it's not like you are at a crawl with your q6600 that you couldn't wait just a few more months. It's exactly what I'm doing and I'll even downclock my cpu to 3.2-3.6 this summer because performance really doesn't suffer that much.

If you are really itching to spend some quality time with you computer, get another hd to match and set up raid0.

Maby get your parents a q8200 and keep your 6600. I love my 8200 and it should be enough power for your parents unless they game.

Well, if you had more money I suggest a Q9650, its worth it. I have one and it runs like a charm. But thats out of your budget so yeah.

you should just buy your parents an e5200 or something, i doubt they're gonna utilize the quad core's 2 extra cores
