Hey everyone, so as I've been rebuilding my PC I have been taking my old parts and been using them to build my parents a PC, and the last thing left is a processor.
Right now I have a Q6600 B3 @ 3.2 ghz ( I haven't tried 3.6 ghz yet but I will soon), and I'm wondering if there is a good quad core CPU that will overclock to give me better performance then a Q6600 that is under 300 bucks. So far Ive found : Q6700 Q8200 Q8400 Q9300(little pricey) Q9400 I get all my parts from http://www.canadacomputers.com/index...d=pl&id=CPU.84 or http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...name=Quad-Core Im not too sure how those processors stack up in terms of OC performance, so any input is very appreciated

I wouldn't get anything less than a Q9550 to replace your Q6600.

But the Q9550 is around 100 dollars more
Ive heard the 9400 can hit 3.8ghz easy, it may have less cache (Ive heard that cache plays a marginal role in gaming performance) then the Q6600 but its 45nm which should result in a speed increase.I'm just wondering if everyone thinks its a worth wile upgrade. I'm not going over 300 dollars. If I had that kinda money I would just buy a core i7 + mobo + ram

nvm didn't read fully
you won't really notice a huge improvement over a 3.2 GHZ q6600 regardless though

Stick with your Q6600. As losttsol stated, anything less than a Q9550 isn't worth it.

Agreed.
And i7 mobo, cpu and ram would be more than 300$ for sure... I looked at it myself for my new build but decided to go socket 775 with a Q6600
