Default My First OC

Hello all.I have recently been reading about overclocking and decide to try it.The only thing i was able to chang was the clock speed. It was originally set at 100mhz with a x18 multiplier.I manged to set it at 115mhz with no problems. If i go any higher it says my windows/sytem file is corrupt or missing. Is there anything i can do to go higher without unstability?

Well first of all before you try to go any higher what is your temp like at load? And why don't you fill in your profile so we can see what you have.

I see you only using PC2100, I think there in lies one restriction on your overclock, need to get it up to PC2700 and change the multi down

That issue could be related to the AGP/PCI frequencies - these could possibly be locked in your BIOS, if so I would recommend locking them to avoid any issues.

Lock them at:
AGP: 66.6MHz or as close as possible
PCI: 33.3MHz or as close as possible

I would not recommend going above 71MHz/37MHz for them or else you could be in quite a bit of trouble

115MHz is not a bad overclock on the FSB. So thats a 270MHz overclock on the clock frequency, not bad

Oh and one last thing, Your CPU is a Willamete, correct?

Do you have options to raise your voltage any? As you up the front side bus you may require more voltage to remain stable.

NO thats not an option. the only option i have is to change the clock speed. if i noticed right the voltage changed itself. sound right? i used speedfan to change the clock speed more but the setting dont stay after shutdown. by the way which temp on fanspeed is the cpu temp? it says temp 1 2 3 1. the first temp changes drastically from one second to the next, while the second (1) stays at 40 c. please help me understand. still trying to learn

The voltage won't change itself, no. The way to check which is your CPU temp is to load the CPU with an application, eg. Prime95. The temp that rises the quickest is your CPU
