Wink Goods And Bads on Intel P4 3.0 ghz 64bit

I'm buying a new processor and wonderd if the Intel Pentium 4 630 3.0ghz 64bit HT-Technolgly was a good choice. How fast is it compared to some AMD Processors. Heres the New Egg Link to it, its on sale for $174.

I love my 640(got to 4.2 on water and 4.1 on air). The 2mb L2 is nice along with the 64bit. The 630 will take you to the 4.0ghz area and maybe more. For 175 id say get it!

Id say because of the 2MB cache, its about as fast as a 3200 AMD CPU. And if you have good cooling, you can reach 4+ GHz on them.

Im with HrnyGoat and steveo42024 on this one

The 630 is an excellent choice. The 2MB L2 cache can really help in memory intense games, however there is a smallish issue which will not really be relevant to anything and that is the 2MB L2 cache of the 6xx series has a 17% higher latency than the 1MB L2 cache on the 5xx series. This will not really be noticable at all because cache is really fast as itself. The CPU obviously has 64 bit technology for next generation 64 bit software.

This CPU has a x15 multiplier so it can achieve a very high bus speed if you overclock it a lot as well

Just dont get a 8xx chipset board if you want to take advantage of dropping the multi. to 14 or 15

Does anyone know of a good motherboard to go with this, one that will overclock easily, also of course one where you can expand the graphics (I HATE BEING STUCK WITH ON BOARD GRAPHICS!!!!!)

Pci-e or AGP? If this is a new build you would want pci-e and ddr2.

Sounds like an awesome deal, if you overclock properly I am sure it's quite a deal.

I would say it might be worth an extra 100 bucks for the 3700+ san diego, but only if you have a good heatsink/RAM for overclocking. I have mine at 2.8ghz stable on air, otherwise overclock that 630 and im sure you'd love it.
