Default Try my luck at another chip?

Hi all,

Got an i7 920 D0 that does 4.2GHz at 1.28v and 4.42GHz at 1.425v. Can't seem to get it stable above 4.42GHz no matter how much voltage I give it.

Should I try my luck with another chip or just stick with this one? I don't have much to lose except maybe $10-$20 on the resale if it's not as good.

Reason I'm asking is I have the X58 Classified and I was hoping to get a little more OC out of it, maybe like 4.5-4.6GHz.

Thanks

EDIT - added Poll.

Well was really hoping to get more out of the classified, but oh well.

I understand.. but I keep seeing people with 4.6GHz chips at the same voltage as me and it annoys me. I know I really don't NEED anything remotely this fast, but it's not about need . Let's see what more people think.

Does anyone think that if I do exchange the chip there's a reasonable chance I could get a faster one? Or is it really 50/50? 4.2GHz at 1.28v is good but I've seen it at 1.1v too.

Exactly, and besides what performance gain will you get after 4.4GHz

Keep that one for now, and buy another chip. If the new one performs the same or worse than your current one, just resell the new one for only a couple dollars less than you bought it for.

LOL everyone this is the plan here...

I am definitely NOT going to get rid of my current chip before trying the new chip. Does that change anyone's mind?

Lol at the epeen guy. Yes...that's also part of it but so is everything we do on OCN.

EDIT - okay I'm going to take everyone's advice... lapping this chip and sticking with it. Maybe better temps will help with overclocking if not then it will just live a healthier life .
