Cool :-:Q9400 Club:-:

Ok well after no one responding in the other Q9400 Club, and no love in the Q9450 Club I'm making the real Q9400 Club!

This because i love this chip i got it from microcenter for $179.99 and it OC's like a champ!

please post your OC's and a validation link! I already have some people and ill post those to start!

Fishpro619 @ 4.00 GHz at ?? Under Water
Shadowk @ 4.00 GHz at 1.462v TRUE
sdla4ever @ 3.90 GHz at 1.404v Under Water
Prong @ 3.60 GHz at 1.31v TT Duorb
The Turk @ 3.2 GHz at 1.3v Coolmaster V8
playboy4u2nv @ 3.2 GHz at ?? ??

There is also a excel Spreadsheet to download if you want more info!

Also Q9400 members if yourOC is higher than mine at 3.9 GHz you should really submit it to HWBOT we could earn a couple points from our good Q9400 OC's

Hey there my temps are low on idle 25 and under load they only max out at 35-40. I tried using intel burn test and prime 95 but it just resets me after a few minutes. I have 4gb of 1066mhz ram so what is the problem?

my vcore is 1.3750

Just wondering does it matter how much voltage you give the cpu as long as the temps are low? Becuase my temps are good but if it is going to fk my cpu up then I don't want to go any higher.

yes the volts kill chips before temperature will. set that vcore to your vid, use core temp for that. also use core temp for temps to make sure the program isnt faulty those seem really low for air cooling.

the mobo you have should be able to OC decently depending on how high you want to go. id try a 400 FSB(1600 if it counts it total) with your vcore set to your vid. And run 20 intel burn test runs.

EDIT: Forgot to say that vcore on these chip "safely" is 1.365 vcore thats the max you wanna use if you care about it dying.

Wow...shadowk and sdla4ever these voltages look crazy. How long have you been using it with these voltages ? I am able to hit 3.6Ghz with 1.31v underload and 1.34v idle with LLC disabled. Never tried further than 3.6Ghz.

I have been using it at 3.44Ghz with 1.23v for vcore for months by now. Which I think is the sweet spot for me for 24/7. Besides I did not notice any serious performance differences between 3.44Ghz and 3.6Ghz. But those 1.40's 1.45's really look crazy to me. Is it safe ?

Btw I am very happy to see another Q9400 club as one of the first owners of this chip. Hope there will be more joint than before.

EDIT : @sdla4ever I have just noticed that you're underwater so it might be no problem for you but still curious about shadowk with aircooling and 1.45vcore for this chip.

My temps are cool because a have an aftermarket cpu cooler and I am using RealTemp.

So what voltage do people recommend because what is the point getting water cooling systems if you are only bound by the voltage of your cpu and not temps. Why do pople suggest going water cooling if their chip is going to die regardless of temp surely the temp is the only thing that matters.

Say a car is running with 200kw of power throgh it and is only 20 degrees but then you add more power to it and make it run with 300kw but the temp stays the same. The car people say it can only make 260kw. Surely the only reason for voltage to be st ie due to temps?

yes this club will be! and im fine under water those volts don't produce temps above 60C mine is running at that for a few weeks now, mainly just for folding...

Its not safe if you don't wanna risk replacing your chip anytime it might die miraculously.

No temp will kill but volts kill much faster! And people go water colled because my ambient temps are to hot for air cooling. Higher vcore than 1.365 has shown it will degrade your chip (mainly meaning it will take my vcore at the same GHz) which would then degrade it faster.

Now i suggest core temp its more accurate and tells you your chips VID <--- This is what you should set your Vcore to then see how far you can OC on that voltage!

Hiya all,
new OC er and new q9400 owner here
i have couple of q's need help with

i got mine 3.0 with no problems ...stable only changed the fsb and dram

yesterday i was trying to get it to 3.2 (which was suppose to be easy with this cpu?)

i had to go up to 1.300V on CPU is this normal?( temps: 40 under load 25 idle)
(anything under 1.300V gave me core 3 error on OCCT)

and when i try to enter NB V manually i can only go 1.20,1.30,1.40 thats it..lets say i wanna do it 1.26..cant i enter 1.26 it becomes 1.30???? is this a normal bios behavior??

im new at this so pls go easy on me
thx for any help in advance

It depends on the motherboard. The Gigabyte ep43-ds3l that I was using had nb options of 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, just like what you are saying, but the ud3r I now use has options like 1.16, 1.18, 1.2, 1.22, 1.24, etc.
