Have a good nights rest and do it tomorrow, your in Cali = same time zone as me. You probably did not damage your CPU, take your heatsink and CPU out, check for irregualarities and then put the stock cooling back on and reboot. If it works, its time for reseating.

My new hsf is the zalman 9500 cnps
__________________the old one was the zalman 7700 alcu so no plastic on it there Ive tried reseating it a good 4 times. I swapped the cpu's with my gateway system my parents actually. Anyways when all was said and done neither computer worked... Same thing happened to me when i took it off took the whole cpu with it stuck to the bottom of the old zalman and if i get a new mobo it has to be agp because i just got my new gfx card thinking I wasnt gonna need to do any hardware upgrades for a while Maybe i should start a help me buy a new cpu and motherboard fund cuz those two parts hit me hard in the wallet Being 16 and without a job, it really sucks when you lose 250 dollars worth of hardware

1) Like said before, there is something like thermal throttling. It's pretty hard to kill an Intel just by overheating it.
2) Make sure you don't put too much AS5 on your CPU. AS5 is known to be a very good thermal paste, but it seems it also conducts a bit. That's why you should only put it the die, and don't spill anything aside from there .3) Err...try handling those processors gently

Recheck everything make sure your not shorting somewhere, but if you used a differant cpu, might be mother board, put the other heat sink on and see if it will boot with old one first.

had something similar happen to me my computer wouldnt boot or make noises, the lights inside my case what just blink on for a sec. the problem was the cpu was put in the wrong way (i was an idiot...)and a cpu pin was bent, luckily the pin i broke was for grounding purposes so it still booted up and worked stabily after placing the cpu in the right way. your case is probably nothing similar to mine seeing that you reseated the chip 4 times, but i felt like storytelling

Intel CPUS are hard to kill from short bursts of heat. They will thermal-throttle to limit the heat from becoming too severe.
