Default Removing an intel stock cooler

Ok this is my first post so bear with me. I just bought a zalmans cpu air cooler for my 478 intel pentium 4 processor. Problem is how do i remove the old stock cpu cooler. I looked and it is the basic intel stock cooler. It has two white levers and I did open them but it is still on there very tight. I just dont want to damage my cpu/motherboard. Any help would be appreciated.

those levers are like sping-ready thingys, so just try to unhook them without daminging the things around, you'll need plenty of force to remove it tho, so don't be scarred to use that force

If the cooler has been on a long time it might be stuck to the cpu. Let it run and warm up a bit to soften it up. Along with the 2 levers, you have to spread the hooks on the four corners of the cooler bracket to remove it. After spreading the brackets apart, gently twist back and forth slightly while lifting up.

Its fine just go ahead and take it off. Before you put the Zalman on clean of all the thermal paste and reaply some AS5 or the stuff that came in a little white tube with the Zalman.

The thermal paste might be sticking the CPU onto the heatsink. After you open the levers, slowly twist the heatsink and eventually it'll come off. Just don't directly pull on it.
