Listen to some of the suggestions on here, (Re-format), sounds like a good idea..
There are tons of other things that could be the problem without jumping to the conclusion that your CPU is faulty.

I don't think that would be caused by faulty CPU, it would rather BSOD or restart etc. A few years back I had a virus that did exactly the same you are describing, so I would start by reinstalling Windows. Some viruses are really hard to remove completely...

However, now it only crashes once every two days or so now that it's back at clock speed. I may have installed the cooler or applied the thermal gel improperly. It's possible my ram may be faulty though. How do I test the ram?

Not trying to be disrepectful or rude,but i don't think you have a sufficient knowedge of how to overclock a computer successfully. The guys here will go all out to help you if you will play along. Please enter your system specs so we know what we are dealing with. Then we can tell you what voltages to set and how to test

For one i've never seen a Q6600 break. These are the clock masters. Do some of what the other members here have said, after all you came here for help and advice, dont turn it down.

I personally think it's RAM or PSU. Chances are it's PSU if it just happend. What brand is your PSU?

Now that is what I am talking about...

A CPU rarely ever has any issues if it boots, it is more likely going to be the RAM that is causing your issue or SW corruption in windows.

Do the memtest first, make sure your ram passes atleast 3 passes before you say it is good,
and if it does pass all three rounds time to reformat and reinstall windows

If you want to test the CPU then shove a different one in your comp, if the problems stop then you're right, if they don't - you're wrong.

Nah I made it unlinked, so the RAM fsb stays the same while the CPU fsb goes up. Anyway, how do I test the ram hardware just in case?

CPU =/= RAM =/= FSB

You can test for stability using Linx.

I suspect some software issue though.
