I need to ship a CPU tomorrow but I'm not sure what to use. I don't have the little plastic thing that goes over the bottom.
Would just bubble wrap work or should I go out and buy an anti-static bag, then wrap it in the bubble wrap?

you should be fine, even if you fit it inside like a paper envelope and then a bubblewrap packaging would be fine. That is as long as it isnt an older one with pins!

Nah, a Q6600. Shipping the box with it so I was planning on wrapping it in bubble wrap, putting it inside the CPU box and then the cardboard box to ship. I'll get the anti-static bag anyway.
Just thought I'd ask to be safe. Edit- Where do you think I could find an anti-static bag at? I'm guessing post office, does UPS sell 'em?

yes not in a bubble bag, due to possible static, conceal it in an ESD bag, tape down the bag, then i'd put in paper, then the bubble wrap. then again i never shipped a cpu lol

honestly, a static bag is like 5$, if that, and if the chip were to fry during shipping because you do not have the 5$ anti-static bag, then you will sorry that you have basically lost an expensive item because you were too cheap to protect it.

if you have the original box then you dont need bubblewrap unless the box you are putting it in is way bigger. cpu's arent exactlly fragile

How about hit two birds with one stone, go pick up some anti static bubble wrap. Staples usually has some.

I'd agree, an anti static bag will be a good thing. It is like a bed of nails and the distribution of the pressure. There are so many pins that they won't get bent if it is in the right box and doesn't bounce everywhere.

I usually put in the plastic holder, then wrap it in a anti static bag, then fit it snug in the little plastic thing from the box, then in bubble wrap.
