I found out,my chip has a dodgy temp sensor.i thnk it shows about 10c too high across the board. The socket sensor shows about 31c idle, and the core 1/2 sensors show 42c/42c.The guy who had it before me confirmed this.

I am upto 4.3ghz now for 24/7 at 1.3v set in bios/1.27v under 100% load.Temps are about 31c idle and about 43-46c load.(that is allowing for the 10c discrepancy as stated above)

I also have two stuck sensors. one at 40c and one at 34c. it only reads if it goes higher, other wise 34 and 40 are as low as they go. But i use the main sensor then.

Its a bummer, but mines maybe not as bad as yours. It does go up and down,it just seems to read 10c to high across the range.

How close to the core temps is the main sensor?

the only c2d cpu i've ever had that didnt have stuck sensors was an e6400. mine are also stuck so the idle temp is never correct, but idle temp is not as important as load temps.

that's certainly true, so it doesn;t really matter.
