You're making an assumption that the chip can even get to 4 ghz. Also it depends on if the games/programs you are using are being CPU limited in the first place.

Its stable on air at 4.0 but the temps are way to high. It loads around 55 at 3.6 after 20 runs of LinX. At 4.0 it idles around 60 and only completes around 15 runs of LinX so its not fully stable but pretty close. Thanks, i am going water because I can have something to play with until i make enough money to get a better chip.

I was on the same boat, so I made the jump, and well, we will see!

I would go for it just to see the 4ghz, but an 11% increase probably wont even be noticeable to you with your rig.

With my Q9550 I noticed no difference between 3.6ghz and 4ghz. Practically, it's not worth the money spent on watercooling. We are all enthusiasts here though, so go for it if you have the cash!

It's worth it for sure. I wouldn't put any money on it being stable, Q6600 24/7 at 4ghz are golden chips.

4.4GHz i7 here and I notice a huge difference vs stock when I play games that have lots of AA. EDIT- I wouldn't JUST get water to go the extra 400mhz though. Get water so you can have it in the future . I love water cooling and it's always helpful, no matter what you're overclocking. If you step up to a Q9550 or a Core i7, that water cooling will still be VERY helpful, esp with the i7.

Lol My temps now are like 70C load and mine isn't overclocked at all. I'm lucky if i can get 60C doing nothing.

![]() A 400Mhz will help you out either way. If you don't have to raise voltages for that it's even more worth it.

Hi, i'm Barry Scott!

Chances of hitting 4ghz are slim to none. Some people manage it.
My 1.25v VID Q6600 tops out at 3.7ghz (I can get more, but with silly vcore).
