A 400Mhz will help you out either way. If you don't have to raise voltages for that it's even more worth it.
How is my logic skewed? I said up to 11%, and I mean up to 11%. If the CPU is the only bottleneck in the system, then he could theoretically gain 11% performance. Same with an E2160 - if it was the only bottleneck, you could theoretically gain 100% with a 100% overclock.

Not likely, but possible, given the right circumstances. And that's why I said up to anyway - my point was that he's not going to gain much, and 11% would be the max.

Are you serious? It wont esplode it if i go above 1.4!!! Watercooling it is. I think i am going with a 240x240 magicool radiator on the side of my HAF and a 360 XSPC rad on top. 360 for my CPU and 240x240 for my future dual 4870x2's

1.55vcore should be safe. And so should 90c load temps be. Temps are VERY overrated - if you're stable at 90c then it's good. They only affect stability below critical points - which is in the 110c area, on which they start affecting the lifetime of a processor majorly.

So basically, 1.55vcore, keep an eye on temps, raise the FSB and bob's your uncle.

yeh i would go for it, i had mine on 3.6ghz for along time @ 1.39V stable ( it was a 1.2625vid ) and then i had in on 4.0 @ 1.57V and load temps max out at 52, increase in performance was like hell yeah dude, scoring almost 7000k 3dmark 06 and increase in FPs was about 8 to 14 ( well u know SLI needs more data than a single card ).

the cpu is now on its way to a member from OCN along with my E8400 and i am getting a Q9550 form him, hoping to get 4ghz+ if not ill stay on 4ghz with a lower vcore and maybe then add a dual phase rad and waterblocks for my gcards

anyways

go for it dude, i had a Q6600 in the past lived on 1.6V for 1.5 years ( 1.3250 VID) it needed 1.6V to do 3.7ghz lol

and the chip is still alive but my friends only pushes it to about 3.4 tough lol he's scared

q6600 @ 4ghz will draw mad power for really not much real-world performance difference. My old q6600 at 3.6ghz 1.36V used about 180W during intel burn test.....4ghz would be well above 200W i'd imagine.

Agree! 72 is really the max and the 60 load that everyone talks about is wack. Stay below 72 and your good!

I dont pay the power bills but I hear my parents talking about how it is getting out of control.

Incase anyone wanted to know, I have a VID of 1.850

Thanks guys, I am still nervous because to get to 4.05 my temps jump to almost 80.

Are you guys sure that with temps more than 70 that I wont kill my chip? I am upgrading in a little bit but if this is a golden chip it would be pretty cool if I could sell it or trade up or something. Maybe I will do a DICE run and see if I can set a Q6600 record or something.

Your right really when you look at it, lets say you did a 100% OC, before the OC you got 30FPS so a 100% increase would be 60FPS? No.
Because your 30fps is not all coming directly from the CPU maybe 5fps so an increase to 35fps would mean a 100% increase from the CPU side of it.

These is pure speculation
