yup. It went up to 1.2 after 3 minutes.

I cant get my computer past 4.0ghz no matter what i do. I think its my memory holding me back. I have 4 gigs of G.Skill 800. I cant put the divider any lower so i still haven't actually reached 4.0ghz on this board. Kinda wish my friend would sell his maximus extreme to me. His board is what i reached 4.0ghz on air on. Right now i am on a sweet DFI LP LT P35 T2R. It is an amazing board for the price.

you picked a bad time of year to max out your chip. summer's only flaw.

But i'm 99.9% sure you shouldn't run your CPU hotter than 71C, its what intel's documentation states as a max Temp.

If you're running 2 sticks then you should be fine. But if you're running 3 or 4 sticks, then you should try removing some so you have 2. Anything else tends to stress the memory controller.

Additionally... do you run on the 1:1 divider? You might want to try something else, 1:1 is known to tax the motherboard a lot more than a lot else. 3:4 is probably a good place to start at - hell even 4:5 would do better than 1:1.

My motherboard doesn't have those style dividers. This is something i have always kindof ignored. I would just go through the dividers and see wich one was closest to 800.

Mine are like 266/333 or something like that.

Intel's max is the maximum that you can run the chip without a reduction in the life of the chip. So you shouldn't run your CPU hotter than 71c if you want your chip to last as long as the MTBF, but if you don't care if it lasts more than a couple years, then go for it. Even then though, heat isn't near as damaging to a processor as everyone makes it out to be. The worst I've seen it do is reduce stability.

I've never heard of a chip dying from too much heat. Only from too much voltage.

Go for it if you can get it stable. You will see a major jump in anything cpu intensive.

You could probably sell your chip for upwards of $200 considering the VID and the overclockability of it. Just something to consider...

Thats more than I bought it for

I think i am going to want to keep this a little bit longer or at least until i get my chiller up and running with my water setup and dual 4870x2's. That should make for a nice benchmark.
