Paniced and ended the test. Upon seeing that number stagnate over 10seconds.

Was this a smart move or just some premature noob move?
Should I have continued it? or stop it again next time I run it?

Also, you guys said to keep my eye on the load temps.
By load temps do you mean the idle temps? or while stress testing?
With your CPU voltage on auto its very likely that your motherboard is overcompensating for the clock frequency you have set. Manually set you CPU voltage in your bios. Voltage is directly related to heat when it comes to overclocking, the less voltage you can run your cpu and keep stability the cooler you will be running as well.

I made a post previous to this one, please read that one as well as its one page back.

Ok settings to alter;
- CPU Spread Spectrum -> Disabled
- Corsair recommends Memory voltage between 1.8~1.9v
- Manually input Vcore/CPU voltage setting to 1.25v
- Run Prime95 Small FFTs for 1 hour

Also do I manually exit the Prime95s' Small FFTs test if the temp reading is over 60c?

Default overclock away

U should be able to go up at least .2-.3 ghz with stock cpu cooler ,, even more if u add some case fans, i have a q9550 and i went up .4 with stock cooler but i did upgrade case fans first.. now i am way beyond that currently at 4.02 idle at 35c as i type this . so goahead and overclock a little now then save some money and get a cooler then overclock alot more later i have ran mine overclocked at 4.25 but its a little warmer than i like. even if u dont want to overclock alot u should still invest in a cheap cooler at least think of it as cheap insurance

You should be fine up to 3-3.3Ghz. Beyond that you'll be pushing your luck and a lot will be down to your chip/board.

Oh, absolutely. Nice1n601, I agree with you there. I just wanted to kick start this OC process in the mean time.

I am some what apprehensive at this time, in running the Prime95. Since I dont know whether I should exit/stop the test when the temp goes up to 74c or let it continue.
Which is very very close to Intels thermal spec range (74.1c).

60c is just a baseline for safe everyday use, the thermal spec is a bit more complicated then you may think, ill try and find the info on that for you and post back in a while. meanwhile if your running prime small fft's and your staying around 60-65 I would say your fine however if your above that your pretty much at your limit for the stock cooler.

As I said before, if you can remain stable for an hour then you can either continue stressing or try lowering your CPU voltage a notch or two and try again. Just mind the temps

You can hit 70C during LinPack tests. If you stay below that then our going to be fine for everyday use. I hit about 66C During OCCT and LinX

Ok, quick update.

CPU Spread Spectrum - Disabled
CPU Voltage - 1.300v (less wouldn't boot to Windows)
Memory Voltage - 1.8v

About to run the Prime95 Small FFT test.

What do you have your FSB set to? I saw in your previous CPUz screenshot that your board was defaulting 1.33v so in bios it was probrably close to 1.35v-1.36v , but that was at 3.5ghz which is 700mhz over your stock clock speed. I would try shooting for 400mhz FSB and an 8x cpu multiplier, keep everything else the same that will bring you up to 3.2ghz. You will get more benefit from running a higher FSB than you would a higher multiplier.

Make sure that you set your ram to 800mhz or below because that is your rated speed, until we find your desired overclock you dont want to mess around with overclocking ram.

A change to a 8.5x cpu multiplier will yield a 3.4ghz overclock. Dependent on temps you may have to choose which way you want to go, higher or lower with your multi. However being that you have 800mhz ram I would run it at its rated speed and your FSB at the max you can go without overclocking your ram, which in this case is 400mhz. Good luck, let us know what you think.

Oh and one other thing, if your motherboard was giving your CPU 1.35v for a 3.4ghz clock, your stable voltage may not be too far off from that.

I was running the Prime95 Small FFT from settings which you saw on the CPUZ pictures.

Ran Prime95 Small FFT for 21mins until I refreshed this forum and read your post. I stopped it at 05:21.

Info on the test:
05:18 - FATAL ERROR; Rounding was 0.5, expected 0.4
05:18 - Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file
05:18 - Torture test ran 15 minutes - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
05:18 - Worker Stopped.

From 05:09~05:17 the temp reading was 68c~69c.

The worker #2 continued to run, which I stopped it at 05:21.
The worker #2s temp reading was 53c~55c.

Could this be the result of my CPU Voltage setting?
(It was set at 1.300v manually)
