Ok, before you mythical gods of OC look down on this mere mortal.
__________________I urge you to hold on to your patience just a tad longer... I am fully aware that using stock CPU cooler is a big no-no. However, I am more than eagar to try to overclock it with stock cooler to a stable overclock. Doesn't matter by how much, but obviously 0.0001 microsopicmicrogigaherts increase is quite a pointless venture. Basically, anything is better than 2.8Ghz stock. This is where I would require your wisdom. A) What speed would I be expecting to reach on a stock cooler? B) At this primitive stage of OC. Can I just alter the FSB speed to reach the same effect as manual BIOS override? Any help would be much appreicated. p.s. after reading about 28 pages of the relavant forum (and g00gle), I have yet to find someone with the same cpu with relavent info. p.p.s. I did however, did see very few posts with E7400 owners with aftermarket coolers & thought that I would ignore them since mines all...*cough*...stock.

Crank it up to 3.0Ghz and see what the temps are . That will tell you more than guesswork,if good then test in prime

I know a lot of people look down on the stock CPU coolers, but honestly, for the 65nm and 45nm intel dual cores, the stock cooler works quite well--at least, for my 2180 it did. I clocked up to 3GHz from stock 2GHz on the stock cooler and temps were acceptable. Not the most absolute cool, I believe I would hit about 62C under orthos load, but it's well within the thermal spec's of the CPU. Only reason I went with my Zalman is 'cause it was something like 75% off at Fry's one day.
Just clock it up, run orthos or your favorite loading program and keep an eye on load temps. You should be able to hit 3GHz without too much problem with temperatures, though it'll depend on how your case airflow is as well.

I agree with these guys by saying crank it up to 3.0ghz and go from there. You should be able to bring your chip around 3.6-3.8ghz no problems with near stock voltages, but you may get hotter once you reach that high. Make sure to monitor your temps whilst stressing and so long as you remain under ~60c you should be good for 24/7 use.
Most people prefer below 50c but with a stock cooler you can only expect so much. When you decide to venture into the aftermarket cooler world, I highly recommend a Xigmatek s1283, best bang for the buck imo.

I've hit 3.2GHz with my E7300 on stock voltages. Even with the crap ECS board I got for free with it. I was hitting 60C with 20 Passes of Intel Burn Test.

Thank you all for the great suggestions and the positive news!
__________________I have looked at my BIOS and it seems that my CPU is at its max multiplier setting, am I missing something? Here is the picture; ![]() "Ratio Status: Unlocked (Min:06, Max:10.5)" <-great! I never knew "Ratio Actual Value:10.5" <- what the... Does this mean that I cannot OC or have I missed something totally? Having read the forums and the great post by "NoAffinity" (http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...ing-guide.html) here at the overclocker.net I am somewhat stuck as to how to proceed. I gotta have missed something right?! Also, the BIOS that I have seen so far are older versions of what I have. Or so it seems. Alot of unknowns for me still. My BIOS version is 0905. Is there any beginners step by step guide on how to OC with this version of the BIOS? Again, many thanks for your help gents/ladies.

Disable speedstep tech and reboot, then run cpu-z again. that will fix some of your inaccuracy issues... Also disable C1E ... those are throttling mechanisms built into your motherboard, it is actually slowing your system down to keep it cool, it's just a built in feature. If you turn them off it will run at whatever MHZ you have it set to run at.

for my e5200, i use a Q6600 stock cooler (a little better) and went from 2.5ghz to 2.8125ghz with stock voltage and no raise in temps. I trued 3ghz and it failed and didnt mess any more with it.
