Don't remove the IHS - I recieved a mobo with an old a64 chip with the IHS removed that wouldn't post. Everyone said it was the board, but I tried a new identical chip and it's still working fine now, so the chip was definetly killed by the IHS removal. I wouldn't recommend it under any circumstances.
