Default How to test the condition of the CPU before lapping?

So let's say I wanted to lap my Q9550, and I wanted to make sure it's 100% functional and overclockable. It would suck to lap it and then find out it needs to be RMA'd.

How would I proceed?

Just make sure it boots up maybe test it a bit with Prime95/LinX then have fun lapping it.

Yeah. 1 week of gaming with the computer on 24/7 will be a good test.

Leave it folding, and do Prime95 or LinX once a day (to simulate regular heavy usage).

One week, good call.

I'll be folding anyway, plus I have a lot of gaming to catch up on (Crysis, respectively).

How about the IntelBurnTest? Should I include that into the benching?

Lapping is a cheap way to get your temps down, so first find your max overclock with safe temps then lap your heatsink and cpu.

Put it into your computer, see what stable oc you can get and the temps it comes with. Then lap it, and report new temps back to us
