I got all of my stuff in, got the new motherboard, hooked up, plugged in, assembled, blah blah blah, go into setup and check PC Health.. and I see my CPU temps going from 50 degress celsius up to 66.
__________________ I turned it off after that.Is that really bad? I got the CPU and aftermarket fan/heatsink from a member around here, he said they both work great. The fan's speed was on 100%. I did use Evercool thermal compound on the CPU and heatsink. Should I put more compound on there?

First off, what processor are you running? About 70C is when you should be afraid. Get a Dark Knight cooler. Great cooler and cools nicely. On top of that go and get some MX-2. REMEMBER YOU DO NOT NEED MUCH!
If you need help applying it, there are tons of guides here that tell you the correct way to apply thermal past to a HDT heat sink.

Two out of three coon hounds agree, something ain't right with that!
Go ahead and fill out your system specs (under the UserCP tab, right in the middle there near the top of the screen) so we can better help you. Pull the cooler off and see what kind of contact the HS made with the CPU. It may not have seated properly is my guess.

Fill out your system specs, will help us help you
. You shouldn't need more than a drop of thermal paste the size of a grain of rice. All it is supposed to do is fill in the cracks between the heat sink and the CPU. You should try re-seating the heat sink. That is probably your issue. What CPU cooler/heat sink is it?

Yeah, go pull your heatsink off and clean it well with 91% or greater alcohol (CPU IHS TOO), re-apply TIM and re-seat.

sorry guys, filled in the specs to the best of my knowledge. :P
__________________I put a drop on the heatsink and a drop on top of the CPU, I guess I should clean that off and only put one drop. I don't know how to re-seat the heatsink the proper way, though. It's got an X-pattern retention bracket, should I apply the screws in a diagonal pattern? Like, one on the lower-left, then one on the upper-right, without tightening them too much? And then tighten both at different intervals? That's what I thought I should do, but, I dunno.

Yeah that´s the better way to pu the retention system
and try to put theralcompound as little as possible without exaggerate another thing you could see is the flatness of your cpu and heatsink surface with a razors blade and if they are very convex or the opposite you must think to lap both or the one that is more deformed as you wish

Are there any links to guides on how to apply thermal compound?
