Yeah. I had a e6750 and went to a e8400. I was also, at the time, thinking about getting a Q94/9550, but seeing that I'm just gaming mostly with VERY little encoding, I stuck to the e8400 because of the higher clock. Right now my e8400 is at 4.0GHz on 1.2v, which is still less than stock voltage. That's a nice!

I say go for it. The Q9550 is ridiculously cheap right now, and it will give you a huge performance boost. I downgraded from a Q9550 @3.85 to an E6400 @3.4 and the performance drop sucks lol. You will love it!
