Default OC QX9650 vs OC i7 920

Hey guys I know people say that i7 920 kills the QX9650 stock for stock but what about overclocking.

Will a overclocked QX9650 @ 4.5ghz beat an overclocked i7 920 clocked at 3.6ghz?

I can get a Qx9650 for a good price but won't upgrade it unless there is a huge difference between the two.

Can people show some benchmarks comparing both.

Thanks

you can likely hit 4.0 anyway on the i7, but it would be close. In all honesty you won't see that much difference since both are so top of teh line.

The QX9650 puts out alot of heat compared to the 9650, but i know you're not comparing those two. You're better off saving up some money for a complete i7 upgrade (maybe Rampage II Extreme or Classified for you) and if possible, get a second 4890 in there. other than that, what do you do on your computer? game? encode?

Clock for clock the i7 is a little faster in most things, and a lot faster in a few things. However, with a 900MHz advantage, the Yorkfield will easily win most tests.

However, the i7s OC just as well, if not better than Yorkfields.

Yah thoght so.

I am getting another 4890 when I have some more cash.

I game and encode so the extra power will help.

I think I will just get a Q9550 as it will overclock easily to 4ghz with my cooling and will be better for the 12mb cache compared to my Q9400 6mb or whatever it is.

Getting the QX9650 will be more economical for you , moving to an i7 would require its own set of DDR3 triple channel ram and motherboard

Are you forgetting that a QX9650 costs $1000+? In this case it would be more economical to go i7 lol...

@OP: Why not just clock the i7 to 4.6ghz too? Any 920 D0 overclocks just as well as a QX9650 does, so the i7 will always be faster. IMO there is absolutely no reason to get a high end 775 chip at this point in time.

Obviously I am not going to pay $1000 I can get one for around $450 but looks like I will be getting a Q9550 for AU$250 which is quite cheap for Australia anyway they usually cost AU$335!

Will clock it to 4ghz and that should do the trick and help my encoding and gaming =)
