So yeah, I need to know what options to change and all the sh.ts.
__________________Please, don't just say "change this, this and do this". I need detailed descriptions of how to do this right. If you have AIM, that would be even better. Mine is Al plants Corn. I would really appreciate any and all help. I would love to get to 4GHz which, from what I've heard, should be fairly easy. Will check on this tomorrow.

There are more than enough guides on here as well as the internet on how to accomplish this..
First of all, it highly depends if your E8500 is E0 or C0. If you gave more information it would help a lot. Also updating your board to P08 if you haven't will help a lot as well. I got an E8400 on my 780i very easily. You need to go into the options in the BIOS, and change the FSB until it shows 4000mhz. Also unlink your RAM and it should be running at default speeds of 800. You will also have to go into the voltages area of the BIOS, and increase your CPU VCore. For my E8400 C0, I needed 1.42v in BIOS just for it to boot. If you have a C0, it'll need quite a bit more voltage than E0 chips. I would try running it at 1.3625v in BIOS, and see if it boots, and move your way down. You shouldn't even need to touch anything else on the 780i except for unlinking your RAM, and setting your FSB show that it shows the speed as 4000mhz in the BIOS. The 780i BIOS is weird..

So, unfortunately, it really is as easy as just being told what to change, and then bam: you should have 4.0 GHz without any problems. However, I only have the 680i, so here are some basics to start this off:
Oh, and again: you may be able to get away with much less core voltage since it's only an 840 MHz overclock, but experiment. With this CPU, you could probably use something less than 1.25V.

Thanks fellas. I don't really like reading tuts, I'd rather have someone talk with me directly on what to do. The E85 is an E0, sorry didn't clarify. Oh and the bios is P08

But, if you had an i7, then you'd most definitely want to take baby steps and gradually increase the overclock bit, by bit. But as the i7 becomes more and more common, you'd eventually be able to just start with somebody else's settings and then tweak from there!

Screw the double post.

Whoa. Did you also use each setting that I posted?

Yep, to the T. Didn't have a Vdroop option though.

Aw, no Vdroop Control. That kinda stinks.
Then try 1.4V FSB voltage, and see how it goes. Or, it could be something else that I don't know about since I only have the 680i.
