I dont want to buy a new motherboard for my old computer, but i would like to upgrade the CPU. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of the performance difference i would get from going from a Pentium 4 Prescott 530 to a Prescott 672. The only real difference is 800MHz and EMT64. The thing is, I dont want to buy a new mobo for that system, nor does the current support greater than prescotts. ultimately, is it worth upgrading to the 672.

What is the model of the board? Depending on that it may support the Pentium D, which will be your better bet.

I would look for a Pentium 4 661 C1 stepping stock is 3.6GHz and those 65nm Prescotts clock very high, even with the 915 chipset the 18x multi will be fairly easy to OC with. 65nm versions also run much cooler and draw less power.
Assuming it supports 65nm P4's, if not then the 672 would be next.

I checked Asus', the board doesnt support the 661, the 672 is the best chip it supports.

672 is your best option then.
