how long would you suggest running OCCT to be sure of stability

OCCT 2-hour mix test followed by an 8+ hour run of Prime95 small FFTs is a good combo to test stability of an OC.

I corrupted the windows 7 boot with an unstable overclock once. I just had to put the disc in and do a start-up repair.

That can happen but is really really rare. The worst that you could get is a memory error or soemthing saying windows cannot boot because blah blah is missing. Well go and put your clock speed down a little and it fixes it. I have overclocked my PC to 3.8 and gettting there was a trip. I had at least a dozen BSOD and boot errors <.< AND STILL NOT CORRUPTED FILES!

Yes it can absolutely corrupt an OS, it happened to when i was oc'ing my Q6600.

As long as you aren't increasing the PCI clocks, you're fine.

Yes because if you have an unstable OC then you can corrupt files.
